Gold Coast based bridal gown designer Helena Couture Designs wanted the images to continue with the story of the bride and groom adventure and romance post ceremony. This shoot takes you through the moments between the newly married couple leaving on their private boat, travelling along the water’s edge, enjoying each other’s company, snacking on fruit, cheese and smoked salmon, sipping white wine, till they reach their own private oasis. The moments that are purely just about them.
highlights: While we were scouting the shoot locations via the Silver Arrow, an hour prior to starting, we received many people waving to us or just staring. It felt like I was a member of royalty! The environment was so relaxing and cooling, I didn’t want to leave… until the midgees came out…
challenges: Really the only challenges we faced were the limited areas we could shoot, while on the boat, but I feel we were able to get everything we needed from the different areas on the boat we shot in, as again it was the emotion I wanted coming from the images end the end.
what led you to decide on a boat shoot? The Silver Arrow was built in 1936 and was used in WW2, so has seen a lot! Now as it has been lovingly crafted back to its original style, we were lucky enough to sail along the water, basking in all its glory. It was our bridal hair stylist Amanda, who being a boat person herself, first suggested we use it, as we are always trying to create a new and emotionally charged styled shoot. Through Amanda’s connections, Bruce, the owner of the Silver Arrow was happy to join our team, and this was the beginning of another editorial filled with creatives wanting to share what we are great at.
favourite detail: The drone footage definitely stands out and at the end where the couple are in the water with the sun setting behind them…. The shades of colour are pure magic.
favourite moment: The whole time we were together on the boat! It was the companionship we all struck up as soon as we first met. It was a day of discussing creative ideas and having a casual conversation… It was a very relaxing day at “the office” and I felt blessed to be living in such a beautiful country and being able to continually work with such great professionals. It reminds me why I love what I do so much.
